The Market Yard police are investigating a complaint registered by a 52 year old betelnut businessman from Gultekdi, stating that six people, of which four posed as Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials, stole Rs. 20,000 from the cash box at his store under the pretext of conducting a raid.
The incident occurred on Feb 8, and the four who prosed as GST officials include two women and two men. The other two did not enter the store.
Mahesh Daryani, proprietor of Om Trading company, approached the police two days after the incident, and after an inquiry, the plaint was registered on Thursday for charges of impersonation an cheating.
Senior inspector Swapnali Shinde said footage is being analysis to establish the identity of the suspects.
Daryani said when he visited the GST office after the raid in which he was distracted and Rs. 20,000 went missing, he was shocked to learn that the department had not conducted in it. GST officials could not identify suspects in footage.
