India Imposes Five-Year Anti-Dumping Duties On Acetonitrile, Aluminium Foil, Pretilachlor Imports

The Union government has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties for five years on three key products — acetonitrile, aluminium foil and pretilachlor (including its intermediate PEDA), to shield domestic industries from unfairly priced imports.

The duties apply to imports from China, Russia and Taiwan for acetonitrile, a solvent widely used in pharmaceuticals and chemicals, according to an official notification on Friday.

In the case of aluminium foil, the duty targets imports from China, where domestic producers were found to have suffered material injury due to underpriced inflows. The duty, ranging from $479 to $721 per tonne, covers products under various tariff heads but excludes specific technical grades such as foils for capacitors and insulation.

For pretilachlor and its intermediate PEDA, used in agriculture as a herbicide, the anti-dumping duty ranges from $1,246.9 to $2,017.9 per tonne, based on the producer. The action follows findings of consistent dumping from China, harming Indian agrochemical manufacturers.

All three duties are effective for five years from the date of notification and are aimed at creating a level playing field for domestic industry.
