The Gujarat High Court on Monday directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due date for the filing of Income Tax Returns (ITR) for audit cases to November 30 to comply with the provisions of the Income Tax Act, which provide for a one month gap between the filing of the audit report and the ITR.
Frustrated with the issues that chartered accountants and taxpayers faced while filing ITR, the Income Tax Practitioners Association from Amritsar has voiced its concerns regarding the technical glitches plaguing the Income Tax e-filing portal.
CBDT issued Circular No. 12/2025 dated 15.09.2025 regarding Extension of due date for filing of ITRs for the Assessment Year 2025-26.

The department stated that, “To assist taxpayers for ITR filing, tax payment and other related services, our helpdesk is functioning on a 24×7 basis, and we are providing support through calls, live chats, WebEx sessions & Twitter/X.
The Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA), the central council (CIRC) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Advocates Tax Bar Association (ATBA) have all sent a representation to the Ministry of Finance highlighting various issues with the e-filing ITR portal.
The last date to file an income tax return is 15 September 2025. So far, only five crore returns have been filed across India, reveals the latest data of the Income Tax (I-T) department as on 8 September.
