The income tax department has hiked the minimum threshold for filing appeals by the department in tribunal, high courts and the Supreme Court.
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued Circular No. 09/2024 dated 17.09.2024 for further enhancement of monetary limits for filing of appeals by the department before Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, High Courts and SLPs/appeals before Supreme Court amendment to Circular 5 of 2024 – Measures for reducing Litigation.
Recently, the Hon’ble Supreme Court directed the disposal of around 199 appeals based on monetary limits prescribed by the Revenue as a step towards reducing litigation.
CBIC issued Circular No. 207/1/2024-GST dated 26.06.2024 on reduction of Government Litigation – fixing monetary limits for filing appeals or applications by the Department before GSTAT, High Courts and Supreme Court.
