The GST Council, which will meet here on September 9, is likely to make progress on the long-pending agenda of rate rationalisation, and review levy of GST on import of services by Indian entities from offshore branches.
GST Council, is likely to meet early September to consider key issues such as expanding the tax base, issuing clarifications to minimize tax disputes, and evaluating the process of tax rate rationalisation, according to two persons familiar with the development.
FM on Thursday asked Members of Parliament to take the lead in exempting medical and life insurance from the Goods and Services Tax by asking their respective state finance ministers to take up the matter in the GST Council, and also hinted at more income-tax reforms aimed at benefiting the middle class by the next budget.
