A team from the CBI, Shillong, conducted on operation at the Income tax office on Circuit House Road in Silchar on Friday, and arrested two officials for accepting a bribe.
Sources said the CBI team carried out the operation on Friday evening, arresting two officials, including a woman, for accepting a bribe from a person. The tam interrogated the officials for hours at their office before taking them to Shillong, sources said.
The CBI has not disclosed any detail about the arrested officials. While the specific reasons for the detention have not been revealed, it is understood that the raid was part of an ongoing investigation.
This action is part of a series a high-profile operations by the CBI in Assam, including the recent arrests of senior officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway). On Nov 20, the CBI searched the residence of Tanay Deb of Silchar, a suspect in an ongoing investigation into an online trading scam in Assam.
