An inspect of the Uttar Pradesh excise department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 in Saharanpur.
Sushil Kumar, a resident of Nangal, alleged in his complaint that inspector Shailendra Kumar (40) demanded Rs. 25,000 from him in exchange for releasing a deposited excise security demand.
“The complainant was seeking a refund of security fees deposited against a liquor shop issued in his name during the last fiscal year. The amount remaining was Rs. 45,000, for which the inspector was demanding a Rs. 25,000 bribe to release the money. Acting on the complaint, the ACB team organised a trap and caught him while taking the bribe,” said Jaspal Singh, in-charge of the Anti-Corruption Organisation, Saharanpur. A case has been registered at Janakpuri police station in Saharanpur under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, officials said.
