With the new GST mechanism for pan masala, cigarette and tobacco products coming into effect from February 1, the States will have a higher share of revenue, said sources. Also, GST incidence on these products will remain the same.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on mobile handsets in India should be brought down to 5%, while the volume of units manufactured domestically is reduced to 22 crores (220 million), an industry group executive said Thursday.
Central and state GST officers will meet on Friday under the chairmanship of Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra and are likely to discuss various issues like stricter registration norms to deter fake companies set up to evade taxes, sources said.
