On scrutiny of monthly returns filed by tax payers under the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, it is revealed that some tax payers either didn’t pay the tax in cash after claiming the input tax or paid less than Rs.1000.

Thus, in order to ascertain the reason for not paying any tax or paying lesser tax and to know the true status of the transactions of these tax payers, inspection have been conducted in 368 cases to verify tax evasion.

During inspection, tax evasion of Rs. 383.87 crore has been detected in the previous months of June, July and upto 15th August, out of which an amout of Rs. 33.67 crore has been collected. Further, bill traders were identified in 31 cases and action has been initiated to prevent the beneficiaries from taking the input tax credit of Rs. 57.21 crore.

Further, continuous action is being taken in these cases.
