CBIC is drafting rules to operationalise Section 11A of the CGST Act, a provision that allows the government, on the GST Council’s recommendation, to waive tax dues for an industry in exceptional cases, according to two government sources familiar with the matter.
The Delhi Cabinet is likely to soon approve a long-awaited tax amnesty scheme aimed at resolving nearly ₹85,000 crore in outstanding dues – primarily under the pre-GST Value Added Tax (VAT) regime – from before 2017, officials aware of the matter said on Monday.

Good news for GST registered taxpayers who filed GSTR-3B to claim pending input tax credit (ITC) for FY 17-18, 18-19, 19-20 and 20-21 but were prevented from claiming it due to due date related issues. Many of these taxpayers received GST demand notice because they did not file GSTR-3B return on or before the deadline. As per the GST law ITC can’t be claimed without filing GSTR-3B return. One issue led to another. Without getting the benefit of ITC their final output tax liability increased unnecessarily.
The Union government is considering introducing a one-time amnesty scheme in the FY26 Budget to be presented on February 1, similar to the Vivad Se Vishwas scheme for income tax, to resolve pending Customs disputes, a senior government official said on condition of anonymity.
Under the waiver scheme, for a demand notice or statement or order which has been issued under Section 73 for the tax periods between July 2017 & March 2020, the taxpayers are required to file an application either in FORM GST SPL-01 or SPL02 in GST portal accordingly. Presently, Form GST SPL 02 is made available in the GST portal. Form GST SPL 01 will be available soon in the GST portal.
HC set-aside demand of late fee as assessee filed GSTR-9C before 1-4-2023 but benefit of amnesty scheme was given thereafter
The Maharashtra government has started an amnesty scheme for interest and penalty waivers for the pending liabilities under Goods and Services Tax (GST) between FY 2017 and 2020, 2025, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced in the state legislature on Wednesday. The deadline to avail of the scheme and settle dues without any additional charges is set for March 31. He urged businesses and taxpayers to take advantage of the scheme.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said the government expected a recovery of 20 per cent of the outstanding tax or Rs 6,000 crore from the dues under an amnesty scheme related to state GST demands.
