PMC faces ₹200 crore deficit due to unsettled GST dues

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is grappling with an annual deficit of ₹200 crore, primarily stemming from outstanding GST dues from the Maharashtra government. This financial strain relates to 34 villages that were merged into the PMC in 2017. Former standing committee chairman Hemant Rasane previously urged the state government to settle pending dues amounting to ₹1,095 crore, which have remained unpaid since 2019. Currently, the PMC administration estimates that the total GST dues owed to its exchequer stand at approximately ₹1,400 crore.
