Income Tax Department portal glitches have allegedly cost a Delhi-based chartered accountant’s client Rs 29.10 lakh, as the person failed to meet the second instalment of advance tax payment due date of September 15, 2025 for AY 2026-27, despite making several payment attempts before the due date.
The new Income Tax Return (ITR) filing portal 2.0 which was launched on June 7, 2021, is a simpler and user friendly than ITR portal 1.0 but like any new technology, this 2.0 portal is also experiencing many glitches. Moreover, chartered accountants say that there are certain problems in logical reasoning of the ITR portal. Sometimes a tax notice intimation is sent through email and SMS, but the said notice couldn’t be found on the ITR portal. Multiple such small issues collectively form a bigger grievance against the ITR portal.
With the deadline for December 2024 returns set for January 11, 2025, many Indian businesses are facing delays in filing their GSTR-1 returns due to ongoing technical issues on the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) portal. Taxpayers are urging immediate action and requesting an extension of the filing deadline.
Statutory right of appeal can’t be defeated by reason of technical glitches
At a session organised by the chartered accountants’ apex body ICAI to discuss the 2024-25 Union Budget in the national capital on Wednesday, a chartered accountant flagged concerns about glitches in the I-T portal.
With the deadline for Income Tax Returns (ITR) filing fast approaching on July 31, several taxpayers are facing hurdles in completing the process.
The Income Tax return filing deadline is July 31, 2024. With the deadline just two weeks away, the rush to file ITRs has increased multifold. Many taxpayers have reported constant delays due to snags with the e-filing portal. Due to this, the Income Tax Department has started receiving requests from individual taxpayers and tax professionals for extending the ITR due date for AY 2024-25 beyond July 31.
Notification No. 07/2024 – Central Tax dated 08.04.2024 is issued by CBIC waiving of interest to the class of registered person who were required to furnish GSTR-3B but could not file the same due to technical reason.
The Hon’ble Telangana High Court in the case of M/s. Raghava-HES-Navayauga (JV), held that the Assessee must be granted an opportunity of a personal hearing even where the notices for personal hearing were sent to an unregistered e-mail id due to technical glitches.
