Members of the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peramaippu staged a demonstration in Tiruchi on Wednesday seeking withdrawal of the 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied under the Reverse Charge Mechanism on rents paid for commercial properties.

Led by Ve. Govindarajulu, state secretary of the Peramaippu, the protestors raised slogans against the move. The association has called for a reconsideration of the GST rate, arguing that the high tax is making it increasingly difficult for small-scale businesses.
