Chhattisgarh emerges as the fastest-growing state in GST revenue collection in India
Chhattisgarh has emerged as the fastest-growing state in GST revenue collection in India, achieving an unprecedented 18% growth rate in the financial year 2024-25, state officials said. Chhattisgarh recorded a total GST revenue collection of Rs.16,390 crore, surpassing all other states in annual growth. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu followed, registering 16% and 15% growth, respectively.
March 2025 marked a significant milestone as Chhattisgarh’s GST collection exceeded Rs. 2,000 crore for the first time. The state collected Rs. 1,301.09 crore under the State GST (SGST) category, a remarkable 72% increase from March 2024. Additionally, Rs. 756.73 crore was received under the Integrated GST (IGST) category, reflecting a 10% annual increase. Overall, the state’s total GST revenue for March 2025 stood at Rs. 2,057.82 crore, showcasing an impressive 43% monthly growth compared to Rs. 1,443.66 crore in March 2024.
The surge in GST revenue is attributed to a series of reforms and technological advancements spearheaded by the commercial tax department under the directives of CM Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary. The government implemented comprehensive strategies to enhance tax compliance and transparency, ensuring that businesses adhere to tax regulations effectively.
To sustain this remarkable growth trajectory, the government is preparing to integrate AI-based surveillance, digital tracking, and advanced compliance mechanisms. These initiatives aim to further streamline tax collection and prevent fraudulent activities.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “This historic achievement is not just about revenue but reflects our commitment to transparent and participatory governance. By adopting a technology driven, people-centric approach, we have strengthened both trust and compliance. Chhattisgarh is on the path to becoming an economic powerhouse, ensuring sustainable growth at all.”
