CGST Department’s drive to identify suspicious and fake companies registered under GST has sent the city businessmen into a tizzy, with the businessmen concerned about genuine dealers being at risk of harassment in the garb of this drive.
The drive, under which the officials are verifying the firms mentioned in the list of suspicious companies registered by the system, commenced across the country on May 16.
Rajkumar Singla, president of Fastener Supplier’s Association, Ludhiana said, “While we fully support the rules and regulations introduced by the government to check malpractices like bogus billing and tax evasion, we think there is a high risk of harassment of genuine businessmen. For instance, those who are registered under GST but have temporarily shut their businesses can also figure in this list and can be subjected to tough questioning and harassment by the visiting officials.”
