GST fraud: man held for issuing fake invoices worth over ₹171 crore
Officers of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Visakhapatnam Zonal Unit, arrested Maddi Prasad in Karnataka for allegedly being involved in a GST fraud involving bogus invoices worth ₹171.45 crore. This fraud resulted in tax evasion of ₹30.85 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The arrest followed an investigation by the tax authorities, who uncovered irregularities related to the supply of non-existent goods. The accused used the fake invoices to falsely claim input tax credits, thereby evading substantial amount of tax liability.
