Opposition-ruled states meet ahead of GST Council, seek compensation to approve reform agenda
New Delhi, Finance ministers of opposition-ruled states on Wednesday met ahead of the crucial GST Council meeting, and decided to seek compensation for revenue loss incurred by all states following the implementation of GST rate rejig.
GST tax rates on common use items ranging from hair oil to corn flakes, TVs, and personal health and life insurance policies were slashed after the all-powerful GST Council approved a complete overhaul of the tangled goods and services tax regime. Almost all personal-use items will see rate cuts as the government looks to boost domestic spending and cushion the economic blow of the US tariffs.
Indian Beverage Association pitches for rationalisation of GST on aerated beverages
The Indian Beverage Association has urged the GST Council to reclassify aerated beverages as “food/merit” category and put them in 18 per cent GST slab.
GST sleuths bust electronics firm for Rs. 5 cr tax fraud
A Selaqui-based electronics goods manufacturer was found evading goods and services tax (GST) worth about Rs. 5 crore by forging transportation records and claiming incorrect input tax credit (ITC), tax officials said on Sunday, following a search that began on Saturday and continued until midnight. Epack Durable Ltd allegedly showed the movement of goods through vehicles that never passed toll plazas.
