Sabarkantha man earning ₹12k per month served income tax notice of ₹36 cr
A family in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat was left in shock after the Income Tax department served a notice demanding payment of ₹36 crore in taxes to the earning member of the family with a monthly income of ₹12,000.
Jitesh Makwana who works for a private company in Ahmedabad is originally from Ratanpur village in Sabarkantha’s Idar.
An income tax notice was served to Makwanaat his residence, claiming that crores of rupees in turnover were made under a company registered as ‘JK Enterprise’ in his name.
While the notice states that financial transactions worth crores were conducted under his name, Jitesh and his family live in a modest house built with the assistance of ₹36,000 received under the government’s Indira Awas Yojana.
As per the notice, based on information received from the CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) department, the Income Tax department learned that Jitesh (under JK Enterprise) had claimed an Input Tax Credit (ITC) of ₹20.05 crore. As a result, a tax notice of ₹36 crore has been issued in his name.
The notice claims that the company was registered under Jitesh’s name, and transactions worth crores were conducted. Under relevant sections of the Income Tax Act, Jitesh has been asked to respond with supporting evidence by April 13.
