GST evasion of Rs. 2 crore by ‘beedi’ firm detected

A team of Moradabad and Amroha state tax department raided the warehouse of Chand Beed company in Naugawan Sadat of Amroha district and detected several irregularities, including GST evasion of Rs. 2 crore on Wednesday.

According to officials, Rs. 50 lakh were deposited by the beedi firm owner on the spot. The sudden raid created panic among other businessmen in the town, prompting them to down shutters of their establishments.

Chand Alam, who has been running Chand Beedi company for the last 40 years, has many warehouses in Mohali Nal Basti, where tobacco and tendu leaves are stored and beed packing work is done.

Naugada Sadat is also known for beedi making word.

Around 8 am on Wednesday, a joint team of Moradabad and Amroha tax department, led by joint commissioner Hari Mishra, took possession of the warehouses located in Firdosh Masji Wali Galli.

Additional Commissioner Grade-1 of State , RA Seth, confirmed that GST evasion of around Rs. 2 crore was detected.
