In X (twitter) Mr. Munish Maheshwari, posts a letter addressing to Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Union Finance Minister requesting for the extension of due dates for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) and Tax Audit Report (TAR) for FY 2025-26.
He writes “we on behalf of taxpayers and professionals, respectfully request your kind consideration for extending the due dates for filing Income tax return (ITRs) and Tax Audit Reports (TAR) for the Assessment Year 2025-26.”
The following genuine hardships are being faced this year:
- Flood situation in Punjab and other States: Recent floods and heavy rains have disrupted normal life and adversely affected taxpayers and professional, limiting their ability to complete compliance on time.
- Late availability of ITR forms and utilities: The delay in release of ITR forms and utilities has curtailed the effective time available for preparation and filing of returns.
- Frequent updation of Form 26AS and AIS: The continuous modifications and updates in Form 26AS and AIS require repeated reconciliations, causing delays in finalizing correct information for filing.
- Increased information and disclosures: Compared to previous years, more detailed reporting is mandated this year, requiring additional time and effort to ensure accuracy.
- Capital gain bifurcation reporting: For this Assessment year, capital gains are required to be reported separately for two different periods for tax calculation purposes. This bifurcation and reconciliation is a time-consuming task, especially for assessees with multiple transactions.
In light of the above difficulties, we humbly request an extension of the statutory deadlines as follows:
- Non-audit case ITR filing: Up to 15th October, 2025
- Tax Audit Report (TAR): Up to 15th November, 2025
- Audit Case ITR filing: Up to 31st December, 2025
This extension will provide much needed relief to taxpayers and professionals, while ensuring better compliance, accuracy, and transparency in reporting.
We sincerely hope that your good office will kindly consider this request favaroubly.
